Potty Training August 10

Making progress! Plus a successful strategy that worked this morning!

As mentioned in my first blog post, our daughter is really making some great strides at daycare when it comes to potty training. Not only are all of her teachers on board, but they have a great routine. Some parts of her routine include:

  1. Potty attempts are done routinely, meaning that they are at the same time every day.

  2. Each time our daughter goes on the potty, she gets 1 piece of m & m, or one sticker.

Our daughter loves the incentive, and everytime she goes potty she gets excited knowing something is coming her way! When we pick her up from daycare, she is so excited to share with us that she went potty! She also knows that she will get an "eminema" when she gets home.

We are super proud of her success so far. With that being said, we have had very little luck getting her to go potty at home. It almost seems like she is afraid to even look at the toilet in our house! Last night, my wife and I came up with an idea. We recognize that she has a routine at daycare, and KNOWS when shew will be trying to go potty. We figured we would try that at home too. To start- we would do potty attemps when she brushes teeth in morning, and when she brushes teeth at night.

So, this morning, we gave it a try. As I was changing her diaper from the night before (it was still early in the morning if you are curious!), Nikki got our tooth brushes ready. Before I even put on her fresh diaper, I said, "Okay Edie, before we put on our diaper, we're going to try and go potty before we brush our teeth." I walked her naked butt over to the bathroom, and my wife reiterated the direction I had given her. Without hesitation- she sat on the potty and BOOM! she went pee! After small praises to her, we brushed teeth and continued on our day.

We look forward to sticking to the routine method at home! More to come!

I am looking forward now to looking into some products and sites to get our daughter moving in the right direction- towards the toilet!

One site I came across is 123pottytrainme.com. I look forward to checking out their tips, resources, and charts! They seem like a highly referred and promoted company, and one of the top searches on google. Check out their products here.
